Brookings, SD — Brookings High School seniors Grace Zerfas and Macey Fields were honored as the Brookings Rotary Club’s April 2018 Students of the Month. 

 

Grace is the daughter of Andy and Laura Zerfas of Brookings.  Some of the activities in which she has been involved in include:  Soccer, HOSA, Choir, Noegenesis, and National Honor Society.  Outside of school, Grace has participated in Club Soccer and Youth group and volunteered at St. Thomas More and The Children’s Museum.  Her honors include varsity letter in soccer.  She plans to attend the University of Minnesota as part of the Freshman Guarantee Nursing Program.

 

Macey is the daughter of Cory and Heidi Fields of Brookings.  Some of the activities in which she has been involved in include: FCCLA, Student Council, JV and Varsity Golf Team, Spanish Club, HOSA, Knowledge Bowl, National Honor Society, JV and Varsity Debate, Noegenesis Club, and Character Counts.  Outside of school, Macey has volunteered for the following:  Hillcrest Amigos Club, Backpack Project, Great After School Place, Trick or Treat for the Food Pantry, and United Way, and waitress/hostess at Sake Sushi and Hibachi.  Her honors and offices include: SD State FCCLA First Vice President, Brookings Senior FCCLA Chapter President, Brookings Senior FCCLA Chapter VP of Programs, Brookings Freshman Chapter Secretary, Knowledge Bowl Team Captain, Varsity Scholar Athlete, Region Student Council President, National Honor Society Secretary, Region Student Council Reporter, Region IV FCCLA President, and BHS Honor Roll.  After graduation from BHS, she plans to attend the University of Minnesota to major in Biology and minor in Spanishstry.

 

Each month during the school year, the Brookings Rotary Club recognizes two students who excel in exhibiting their motto “Service Above Self” and fulfill the ideals of the Four-Way Test: Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
