Brookings, SD — Brookings High School seniors Rachel Smart and Benjamin Diersen were honored as Brookings Rotary Club’s January Students of the Month, and George Roy was honored as one of the Brookings Rotary Club’s December Students of the Month. 

Rachel is the daughter of Diane and Alexander Smart of Brookings.  Some of the activities in which she has been involved are: Theatre, Thespians, Mixed Choir, Wrodsmiths, Oral Interp, and Debate.  She has held numerous club offices including vice president of the local chapter of the National Honor Society.  Rachel plans to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, and major in theatre and English education.
Ben is the son of Matthew and Cindy Diersen of Brookings.  He has been involved in marching band, Jazz 1 and 2, Art Club, Tennis, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and National Honor Society.  He has held leadership positions in several of those clubs and was a drum major in the marching band.  Ben plans to study engineering at the University of Minnesota in Twin Cities.
George is the son of Jane and David Roy of Brookings. His in-school activities include: Oral Interp, Thespians, Science Olympiad, and Tabletop Gaming.  He has been an officer in a number of BHS clubs, was a National Merit semifinalist, Boys State attendee, and College Board AP Scholar.  George is still considering his college options and would like to make a career out of biochemistry research.
